To be eligible For the After-school Component students must be :
  • Kindergarten-12th Grade (most are enrolled in grades K-2nd)
  • Attend school in Transylvania County
  • Of average or above average ability (may or may not be performing at their ability level, should not be diagnosed for special education services in school (with exception of speech/language services) Other diagnoses must be determined on a case by case basis
  • In need of support and enhancement,
  • Committed to attending daily with excused absences only.
  • Willing to work hard to succeed.
Additionally, we seek students who are currently performing well academically, but may be at risk without additional long term support and early intervention. It is our goal to enrich the student's arts and educational experience and develop leadership, not to provide remedial assistance.

Students with severe learning disabilities, behavioral or emotional disorders are not appropriate candidates for the after-school program.

For the Rise & Shine Summer Component

        All Scholars are expected to:
  • Obey all Adults and all Freedom School Contracts
  • Participate in all activities
  • Respect themselves, other children, and all adults
  • Follow instructions
  • Raise hands to speak
  • Walk to all destinations
  • Use inside voices in the building
  • Keep hands and body to themselves
  • Arrive at Rise and Shine Freedom School ready to have fun and make new friends

        All Parents are expected to:
  • Make sure scholars are on-site by Breakfast at 8:00 a.m.
  • Make sure scholars are picked up by 5:00 p.m. daily, extended time available to 5:30 p.m.
  • Attend weekly parent workshops every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. and/or
  • Volunteer one hour per week to support your child and this program

All children must wear tennis shoes and bring the following items in a backpack:
  • Frozen bottle of water everyday
  • Swimsuit and Towel, Sun-block (SPF 30 or higher), Plastic Bag, Dry Underclothes on swim days
