Dismantling Racism: Inside and Out
- From Internalized Racist Oppression (IRO) for People of Color,
- To Internalized Racist Superiority (IRS) and White Privilege (WP) for Whites,
- To Institutionalized Racism (IR) in schools and the community-at-large
Purpose:
This program of parent organization, Neighbors In Ministry, was designed to better enable Scholars,
Parents and Communities of Color to identify, negotiate and navigate racists' environments while undoing IRO.
The curriculum designed by local Damascus Road (DR) Trainers integrates anti-racism training into the Freedom
School program year-round. The DR Youth Organizer works with middle school and high school scholars to address
the identity inevitably assumed by minorities in a racist society. Parents follow the same curriculum in monthly
sessions facilitated by African American DR Trainer and psychotherapist, Sheila Mooney M.Ed.
Additionally Teachers, volunteers and community members learn the Damascus Road analysis and are exposed to strategies to address
White Privilege and Institutionalized Racism in their own institutions.
Each year, the community-at-large is invited to participate in anti-racism training as a means to honor the birthday and
holiday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Organizations or institutions interested in pursuing anti-racism training through Neighbors In Ministry may mail or email a
